The LAC made this announcement today about the release of the 1921 Canadian Census:
http://thediscoverblog.com/2013/06/04/c ... few-weeks/

However, they are still being vague as to how, when and where it will be released. Looking forward to finding returned soldiers and their war brides. :D

Fantastic news, thanks for letting us know!

This means that for the first time we will be able to check on where the men and women went when they came back, if they came back. In addition to those that did not survive the Great War there has always been the question of those that chose to stay in the UK after the war.

I suspect this means that the team at "Automated Genealogy" will also be hard at work once again.

I have posted a comment to the LAC announcement (awaiting moderation so you may not see it yet) so that others will see that we at the CEFSG have an interest. If you click on any of the names of those that have made a comment you will see their web site - which is a good bit of information as well. I do hope they post some early examples.

I've also added a comment awaiting moderation. I was hoping they would be more organized and have it available for us right away. I guess that was wishful thinking.... At least we get to see it in the same year it was released to the public.

Apparently a senior member of our government believes that the only persons interested in the 1921 census of Canada are "three old ladies in Kingston" who only want to use it for genealogy. In his mind that makes releasing the 1921 census an insignificant priority.......

Please let the government know that we care about our history. I've sent them my message that I plan to track the many WWI War brides that came to our country after the war.

Here is the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, James Moore's thoughts on the subject:

Perhaps if the government stopped Mike Duffy's senate expenses we might have more than enough to cover the funds for getting this out in the public domain though I have a sense the blocked release has nothing to do with money!

It may relate to the release today from Tony Clements. I worked with him in Germany so I can ask directly?

Or their deal with Canadiana.org http://www.canadiana.ca/en/lac-project-faq
http://www.canada.com/news/Library+Arch ... story.html

Apparently new records added will be free but if want to use their database to find things it will be 10 dollars a month.

I sent emails to both the Minister and to the Prime Minister about this and received the response below from the Prime Minister's Office
Quote:
Dear Mr. Lloyd:

I would like to thank you for your recent e-mail regarding Library and Archives Canada.

Please be assured that your comments have been carefully noted. A copy of your correspondence has been forwarded to the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. I am certain that the Minister will also appreciate being made aware of your concerns.

Once again, thank you for writing to the Prime Minister.

B. Funes
Executive Correspondence Officer
for the Prime Minister's Office
Agent de correspondance de la haute direction
pour le Cabinet du Premier ministre

I wonder if it went directly into the "deleted folder" or the "round file"?

done, with the explanation that access to theses records will greatly help with research into our World War Soldiers. It will assist in determining if they stayed in Canada upon discharge, had bride, and where settled.

The downside is that now I'm getting junk mail from the website running the petition. Oh well, it's just a few more added to the list that I get every day.
